President's Letter: Important Industry Events Await at The 2024 Landscape Show

August 2, 2024

Wrapping up July, and August, here we come. The dog days of summer are here! The heat in July seemed unusually hot. And, the rains really didn’t show up until late last month. But they seem to now happen daily, at least, in the Ocala area.

I wrapped up July with Claire Lewis and our friends at UF/IFAS at the Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM planning session. It was great to see so many new and familiar faces! Great things are coming for our state, and the support from UF/IFAS plays such a vital role for our industry.

Moving into August, The Landscape Show seems like it’s just days away. I’m looking forward to seeing all the exhibitors. This year’s event is going to be huge! In fact, it will be the largest trade show floor in a decade with more than 5,000 additional square footage this year.

Don’t forget to sign up for Knowledge College sessions, and come by the FNGLA Pro Pavilion for mentor/mentee opportunities and to update your headshot.

The FNGLA Landscape Irrigation Committee will host a panel discussion at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22. The topic will be The Future of Florida Landscapes, a discussion on potential ways to attain a sustainable water supply for Florida.

The goal of this discussion is to get people talking about water, and making it a priority amongst developers and builders.

Time is not on or side with water use issues, and we have to be present in these discussions across the state and actively listening to lawmakers and builders to provide solutions. We have to be ready.

“Time will not slow down when something unpleasant lies ahead.” — 'Harry Potter' (J.K. Rowling)

Lastly, lots of new FNGLA Chapter installations across the state. My apologies for not being able to attend, but congrats to all the new Chapter officers, and thank you to all the Chapter leaders who have completed their volunteer service to the association. FNGLA's chapters are where the work of the association gets done, and we are so blessed to have so many active Chapters with individuals willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

See you at The Landscape Show!
