FNGLA Hosts Student Landscape Installation Project at Future Builders of America Summit

March 18, 2019

FNGLA’s goal of reaching tomorrow’s industry leaders extended into the realm of building construction in March as landscape professionals and students came together at the 2019 Future Builders of America Leadership Summit.

Aptly named FNGLA's "Education Czar,” Stefan Liopiros of Lawn Enforcement Agency in Gainesville took the reins of the project, which involved creating a landscape plan to beautify the FFA Leadership Training Center in Haines City. Liopiros and Maria Muhlhahn of West Bay Landscape in Bradenton led the students through the steps of creating and executing a landscape design to beautify a path which connects two main buildings of the Training Center. This job utilized generously donated plants and materials from a host of FNGLA members. The group of 60 FBA students installed the landscape over two days.

The Future Builders of America was organized by members of the Florida Home Builders Association to encourage young people to seek careers in construction, according to the group’s website. The idea, the site adds, was to pattern the chapters and Leadership Summit after the very successful Future Farmers of America (FFA) as a way to take students beyond the classroom.

FNGLA has been a part of the FBA Summit for four years, introducing building construction students to landscape construction through hands-on projects such as landscape renovation and paver installation.
