From the engaging conversations and shared insights to the willingness to explore new ideas and innovations, the 2026 Palm Quest Conference experience was dynamic and impactful.

The return of this industry event in April delivered two days of industry education and practical field knowledge. Sessions focused on the future of palms in urban landscapes.

Bringing together researchers, growers, landscape professionals, arborists, and horticultural leaders from across the country, the program explored everything from emerging palm species and transplanting techniques to cutting-edge diagnostics, disease management, and sustainable landscape practices.

Day one highlighted the diversity, resilience, and evolving role of palms in challenging environments with sessions that explored promising new palm species and cultivars adapted to heat, drought, cold, and urban stress. Experts shared practical guidance on selecting cold-hardy palms and cycads for broader landscape use.

Attendees were captivated by the story of the giant coconuts of Palmyra Atoll by Patrick Griffith of Miami's Montgomery Botanical Center, and the conservation efforts surrounding one of the world’s most unique palm populations.

The afternoon focused heavily on real-world landscape management and installation success. Presenters addressed common palm disorders, irrigation and water stress management, proper structural support during transplanting, and the complex logistics involved in installing large specimen palms in dense urban environments.

A grower panel closed the day with candid discussion on transplant challenges, root management, irrigation practices, and proven strategies for improving palm establishment and long-term survival in the landscape.

Day two shifted toward innovation, diagnostics, and applied research through hands-on demonstration rotations. Participants explored emerging technologies including AI-assisted soil DNA analysis, drone-based palm monitoring, targeted nutrient applications, and advanced approaches to palm disease diagnostics. Sessions also addressed lethal bronzing, fungal pathogens, and integrated pest management strategies, providing attendees with the latest science-based recommendations for protecting palm health in Florida and beyond.

Throughout the conference, attendees gained actionable strategies, CEUs, research-based insights, and practical tools for long-term palm care.

Mark your calendars now, as Palm Quest Conference is slated to return in Spring 2028.

Special thanks to the many industry sponsors who supported Palm Quest. A portion of all support will go directly back to palm research.
