A general introduction to some of the most common tropical palm and trees, both exotic and native, in regard to proper tree ID, tree care, hurricane wind tolerance, pest problems, landscape design and maintenance. It will focus on the most proficient species of palms and why they are best suitable to our South Florida environment, going into proper pruning for hurricane preparedness. In addition, the class will cover the study of tropical tree species accounting for a large percentage of our local South Florida canopy. It will answer questions such as:  What do we buy and install as part of our landscape projects? Do all species bring aesthetic or economic value to our South Florida region? Finally, the class will cover proper tree selection from nursery stock and it will focus in poor performers, pest sensitive and hurricane unfit palms or trees that should be avoided when thinking about landscape design in the area.
